What counts as an emergency

Call us if…

No power

Part of the property has no power, or all of it has and the neighbours still have theirs.

Tripping

An RCD or circuit breaker keeps tripping and won't stay on.

Burning smell

A burning smell, scorch marks or crackling at the fuse box, a socket or a switch.

Damaged cable

A cable has been cut, crushed or drilled through, or wiring is exposed.

Water and electrics

Water has got into a light fitting, a socket or the fuse box.

No power to essentials

The boiler, fridge, freezer or cooker has lost its power supply.

While you wait

Keep everyone
safe.

  • ✓If it's safe and dry to reach, switch off at the main switch on the consumer unit (fuse box).
  • ✓Don't touch anything that's wet, hot, sparking or damaged, and keep people away from it.
  • ✓Stay out of flooded rooms while the electrics are wet.
  • ✓Don't keep resetting a switch that trips straight away.
  • ✓Fire or smoke? Get everyone out and call 999.
Not an electrician's job

Two numbers
to know.

  1. Whole street off? Call 105.If the neighbours have lost power too, it's probably a power cut. Call 105 to report it to the network operator: fixing it is their job.
  2. Smell gas? Call 0800 111 999.Don't use light switches or anything electrical, get everyone outside and call the National Gas Emergency Service. We're electricians and not Gas Safe registered, so the repair is a job for a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Questions

Emergency electrician questions.

How much is an emergency call-out?

From £144 inc VAT in our opening hours (Monday–Thursday 9am–5pm, Friday 9am–12pm and 2pm–6pm). Evenings, weekends and other times outside those hours, any day, are at a higher rate. Parts and remedials are extra.

My electrics keep tripping. What should I do?

Switch off or unplug what was running on that circuit, then try the switch once more. If it trips again straight away, leave it off and call 07305 434759. If anything is wet, hot or smells of burning, don't reset it at all.

Is it an emergency if one light or socket stops working?

If there's no burning smell, heat, damage or water, it can usually wait for a normal visit: pick a time in the booking diary. Fault finding is from £102 inc VAT.

Do you cover the whole of Sheffield?

Yes. Emergency call-outs cover anywhere in Sheffield, S1–S36.
